There were rules, but they weren’t followed.
No one meant to make MOM gag and almost pass out.
But, what do you expect when you leave wet laundry at the bottom of the hamper for a week?!? Seriously! And, ahem, MOM has been known to leave a load of wash a few days in the washer which breeds a similar stink.
Thankfully, MOM has a few laundry tricks up her neatly-washed sleeve. One is for getting odors out of clothes.
For stinky laundry, try one or more of these:
Add about 2 Tablespoons of baking soda to the wash cycle.
Fill the fabric softener dispenser with vinegar (or about 1/2 to 1 cup).
Add a few drops of a favorite essential oil such as lemon or lavender to wash or rinse cycle. For serious odors, though, add Purify (a doTerra product, though other companies probably have a similar one).
For terrible smells, do any combination or ALL of the above.
For extra-terrible smells, do a sniff test and wash again using any or all of the above tricks before drying the load.
